The Spice Girl Mel B is considering turning her back on her homeland to take up Australian citizenship.

“I would love to become an Australian citizen,” the singer told The Sunday Telegraph, announcing her global signing with local label EMI.

“I am going to be here for quite some time, or as long as you want me anyway.”

Melanie Brown, 36, has spent much of the past 18 months commuting between London, Los Angeles and Sydney and recently made Australia her permanent base.

Scary Spice is a big star here now, thanks to her run as a judge on hugely popular reality show X Factor. And she will soon begin work as co-host of Dancing With The Stars alongside Daniel Macpherson.

Daughter Phoenix, 13, has enrolled at a local school, with Mel B and husband Stephen Belafonte renting in Sydney’s eastern suburbs until they find a place to buy.

“I’ve set up shop here. We are all really happy and settled,” she said.

“Hopefully you are going to want me here for a long time.”
